Frequently asked questions

How do I check my USCIS case status?

Use your 13-character receipt number (for example, MSC2190000000) on the USCIS Case Status Online tool, linked below. We also track our clients' cases and notify you of every update.

How long will my immigration case take?

It depends on the form type and the office processing it. USCIS publishes current processing times for every form — linked below. In your consultation we will give you a realistic range for your specific case.

What is the difference between a green card and citizenship?

A green card (lawful permanent residence) lets you live and work in the U.S. permanently but can be lost through abandonment or certain violations. Citizenship through naturalization is permanent, brings voting rights and a U.S. passport, and protects you from removal.

Can I apply for a work permit while my case is pending?

Many pending applicants — including most adjustment of status applicants and DACA recipients — can apply for an employment authorization document (EAD) using Form I-765. We file it alongside your main application whenever possible.

What is an ITIN and do I need one?

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number is issued by the IRS to people who must file taxes but are not eligible for a Social Security number. Filing taxes consistently — even without status — builds a record that supports many immigration applications.

What happens if I receive a Request for Evidence (RFE)?

An RFE means USCIS needs more documentation before deciding — it is not a denial, but the response deadline is strict. Bring it to us promptly; a complete, organized response often puts a case back on track.

Do you only serve the Sacramento area?

No — we serve clients across all of California. Consultations and most services are available by phone, video, or WhatsApp; interpretation and translation services are statewide.

How much do your services cost?

We quote a clear, flat fee in your free consultation, before any work begins. Government filing fees are separate and set by USCIS — their fee schedule is linked below.

Will unpaid taxes hurt my immigration case?

They can affect applications that weigh good moral character, like naturalization. Entering an IRS payment plan and keeping records of compliance usually resolves the concern — and we can point you in the right direction.

Is my consultation confidential?

Completely. Everything you share stays between you and our team, whether or not you become a client.
