Overview
Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, is the heart of the green card process for people already inside the United States. Filed correctly, it can be combined with a work permit (I-765) and travel document (I-131) so life keeps moving while USCIS reviews your case.
The challenge is precision: eligibility category, priority dates, the medical exam (I-693), the affidavit of support (I-864), and a complete evidence file all have to line up. Missing or inconsistent documents are among the most common reasons cases are delayed or denied. Our team builds your application the way USCIS expects to receive it — complete, consistent, and well-documented.
How we help
- Confirm your eligibility category and check visa availability before anything is filed
- Prepare Forms I-485, I-765, I-131 and I-864 as one consistent package
- Build a document checklist tailored to your case — civil records, entry history, financial evidence
- Track your case and respond to USCIS Requests for Evidence (RFEs)
- Coach you for the adjustment interview so you walk in prepared, not nervous
Adjustment of status may be right for you if…
- You married a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident and entered the U.S. lawfully
- A family member or employer has an approved petition for you and your priority date is current
- You were admitted as a K-1 fiancé(e) and married within 90 days

Frequently asked questions
Can I work while my adjustment of status is pending?
In most cases yes. We file Form I-765 with your I-485 so you can receive an employment authorization document (EAD) while the green card application is pending.
Can I travel abroad while my I-485 is pending?
Not without advance parole. Leaving the U.S. before receiving a travel document (Form I-131 approval) is generally treated as abandoning your application. We help you request advance parole up front.
How long does adjustment of status take?
Processing times vary by category and field office, commonly anywhere from several months to over a year. We monitor USCIS processing times for the Sacramento field office and keep you informed at every stage.
